Product Description:
You are an Acolyte in the service of the Emperors' Inquisition. You stand in the front line of a great and secret war where your duty is to hunt out the foul stench of heresy, the vile alien, and the twisted influence of Chaos. You will tread where others fear, venturing to distant planets, ancient space hulks, and the unsavory depths of the under-hive. You will never know fame nor reward, yet if you stand resolute your deeds will be whispered to the God-Emperor of Mankind and your name will be revered for millennia! The Dark Heresy core rulebook contains everything you need to start your roleplaying adventure in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Dark Heresy RPG: Core Rulebook (Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay) is an excellent choise for any group playing tabletop rpg's. Classical Warhammer environment and very clear mathematical model for combat etc.

What you see on the market are lackluster games. Nothing special, nothing eye catching. You almost want to give up on the rpg genre. Wait! This is one of the greatest rpgs out this day and age. I've loved the 40K universe for quite some time. The wargame is probably one of the best ones out there, miniature wise, but there was something missing...something that wasn't so close to you. That is what this game does, this game creates a universe so dark and yet so exciting that you cannot help but be excited once again about rpgs. Now I realize that the biggest problem is the cost, the cost for this book along with the other books that partake in this series. But don't let that take you away from a great game experience! The game knows how to make sure you'd enjoy your experience as a gamer, as working for the God-Emperor, fighting the good fight against evil that seeks to destroy through violence and insanity our universe. Play this game, come into the light, and know that there are good rpgs out there once again!

Well me and my group waited for years to finally see this game come out for 40K, we waited and behold, 80% of the group was way disappointed with the version the way it is....Most want to play in the universe of 40K but not as Imperial lackeys for the Inquisition, they wanted a mission based war game, like Behind Enemy Lines for WW2 like the old FASA game, but with the ability to create and play as Space Marines, Eldar or Tau or even Chaos Marines, so after playing 1 game, they didnt want to touch it again, being so upset at the lack of possabilities with the system and wishing for a more flexable class system (something more in line with WHFRP), they have abandoned this game for now, hopefully they do something with an expansion to address the lack of universal playablity for the players.

I just read this book, and I have to say "good work!" to the producers.
I gave it just 4 stars just because I think it's a little hard to get the right atmosphere if you're not an expert of WH40k.
The book is amazing, well written and easy to use at the game table. Every aspect of the Inquisition is well described, as the core mechanics of the game. Despite of the huge number of pages, I think it should have a little more focus on Xenos (aliens) and veichles, but in the end this lack does not mean less amusement in the game session.
In the end... get it, you won't regret!

It was so nice to see this game and setting come out finally. A great alternative to the overflooded D20 market and much better then 4E for D&D. The system is relatively smooth, familiar (if you ever played WHFRP) and easy to learn. Character generation is a bit choppy here and there and the career rank system is a bit annoying, but easily navigated around as long as you treat the career names and rank titles as examples and not set in stone rules.
The only flaw in the system/setting is it is a vast universe that exists in the 40K fluff and without a steady supply of new material the setting will most likely die out. But with 3 books and a GM screen already out, tons of fan material already available and two books on the horizon with more promised, Dark Heresy will be the Game of 2008. I rate it up there with Basic Role Playing and Mongoose Runequest for ease of play and readability and the setting already has hundreds of fluff novels and other game sources to steal from.
