Product Description:
Discover the fascinating story of the Colt firearms, including the world's most famous revolver, complete with more than 150 stunning full-colour photographs.
'God created man, but Sam Colt made them equal.'
The name Colt--synonymous with firearms--belongs to Sam Colt, who, while never claiming to be the inventor of the revolver, improved upon existing ideas and revolutionized gun-making. He changed the industry on a global scale after patenting his very first revolver in 1835. Beautifully photographed, The History of Colt Firearms recounts the fascinating history of this legendary name in gun lore.
Colt's revolvers were much in demand in the American West and other parts of the country. By the early 1850s, he had established a factory in England from where he supplied several thousand revolvers to the British government and parts of its empire. To this day, Colt remains a vital name in the firearms industry, and its pistols were a standard-issue U.S. Army side arm in the Gulf War.
Complete with more than 150 full-colour photographs of the guns, this stunning book describes in vivid detail every Colt weapon. Also shown are various gun-making artifacts, copies of designers' drawings, and interesting photographs of the weapons in the hands of users. The History of Colt Firearms makes a perfect addition to the library of Wild West buff, amateur historians, and firearms enthusiasts.

Fairly good photography but limited specimen examples. Text is of very little value to reasonable knowledgeable individuals. Very elementry. Not a true "history". No information on serial numbers or production time frames. Have seen better writing in high school research papers.

I shoot Peacemakers and most of the Colt Percusion pistols and am always hungry for information on them. I've found that most weapons books can fall into one of two unsatisfying categories: books devoid of illustration that descend into a level of detail that is dry and boring or books that are lavishly illustrated but suffer from sufficient text. Dean Boorman's book is a nice marriage of text and pictures laid out in an interesting way that explains the Colt phenomenon in a concise and filling way. If you like these old guns or shoot the replicas, this is a book you'll really like and want to have on the shelf.
