This book is average at best. The book contains a considerable amount of typo errors. But I contacted the manufacture and they are replacing the copy I purchased for free with the latest edition. According to the manufacture the latest edition does not have the errors as this edition. My advice, wait and buy the subsequent edition.

I used this resource along with several others to prepare for the Middle Grades Math 5 - 9 test in March of 08. I passed the test and I would recommend the XAM resource as a study guide; however, I would caution you to not use this text alone to study for the test. There are hundreds of typos and simply wrong answers in this book. I used this book along with the REA, FTCE Mathematics 6 - 12 to study for the test. I took all of the applicable questions from both texts and wrote them on note cards. I worked out each question before I put the answer on the card. I would say that nearly 25% of the XAM's answers were incorrect. I do think that the sample questions in the XAM book were very similar to the actual questions on the test that I took, so I would recommend the XAM as a study guide for the test--just be careful.

I took the FTCE Middle Grades Math 5-9 test and passed my very first endeavor in March 2008. This was the only book I purchased to review for the test. Just for reference, I will say that I have a degree that was very technical with a large amount of higher level math, so I would consider myself more advanced mathematically than many others.
This book, like all XAM books, has very poor editing, formatting, and many typos. The only thing really useful in the book is the practice exam. It has questions that are mostly representative of the actual exam.
If you do not already know the content, this book is not a good book to learn the concepts. Most of the front of the book (where they 'teach' the concepts) is very limited with poor examples. Many of the practice questions are not even taught in the front of the book. I would not use this book to try to learn how to do the problems. Buy this book if you just need another practice test to work on.

According to this book Martinique was a colony of India and the Inuit populated the Mid Atlantic region of the USA. The book offers more explanation on certain subjects in respectively skills 9.4 and 14.11, which do not exsist in the book. The math section contained more than one mistake (not typo, but mistake - I had a Math teacher check this...)
These are the things I happen to know, so I know they are mistakes. Problem is that I needed this book to study because I don't know a lot of this stuff, so I really don't know if the rest of the material in the book is correct or not! In any case, I am calling the publisher for a refund.

The Florida Department of Education's study guide provides a listing of the skills you must know in order to pass the FTCE Middle Grades Math Test. This book covers all of the of those skills and is more specific for the areas that make up a larger % of the test questions (geometry and algebra). This book was my only study guide and I passed the test with no problem.
