Product Description:
Lavishly illustrated and endlessly inspiring, Winter House is the ultimate guide to creating a place—and a frame of mind—that will bring you joy throughout the years.
A winter house is a place to recharge your body and your spirit. Whether you spend the season on the slopes or in a cozy apartment in a snowy city, you can capture that feeling of warmth and welcome in your own home.
In Winter House, acclaimed interior designer Charlotte Moss shows how to transform your home into a beautiful and inviting retreat. Using her own quintessential winter house as an example, Moss demonstrates how rich, patterned fabrics, gorgeous tableware, and other unique design details combine in a warm and sumptuous environment.
Within Winter House are spaces for every purpose, from inviting areas designed to accommodate festive gatherings of family and friends to calming escapes for private relaxation and reflection. As she moves through each room, Moss shares her techniques and tips, including her favorite “Little Luxuries,” which are simple concepts adaptable to any environment, such as a bed tray for enjoying breakfast under the covers. And because, as Moss says, “A winter house is too good not to share,” there is a host of innovative ideas for entertaining guests and for holiday decorating.
Winter House is the perfect reference for creating your own winter sanctuary.
More than just a home, a winter house is a frame of mind. —Charlotte Moss

I have concluded that in the future, where books on decor, landscaping, and such like are concerned, I should always examine the book in person before I purchase. For one thing, they are large and eventually can preempt bookcase space. For another, since they are expensive, they cut into a book-buying budget. However, "Winter House" by Charlotte Moss was reviewed and summarized as possessing a unique slant. That caught my attention.
When it arrived the book itself was in splendid condition. It was pretty, with lots of illustrations and these profuse in their detail, with good colors. However, the book itself was a disappointment.
The text seemed to repeat itself a lot, its raison d'etre was flimsy, its cohereence and finish were weak. We don't expect a book on decor to be too serious on thought, or even to hold out very many "ideas"; or at least, I don't. But I do want a focus of some sort, and to hear a few things that are fresh. There needs to be something more than "spend a lot of money."
If Miss Moss was not original, there was one feature to her book which I enjoyed. She is an heiress of sorts: her southern grandmother worked professionally in table textiles and tableware for many years and established a tradition of Sunday afternoon brunches at her home displaying quality table presentations and every sort of table detail.Charlotte Moss learned it all as a child. Now, in addition to the things handed down to her, she collects table textiles. Her love of fine tableware, good textiles, and lovely professional flower arrangements all come across in her book and enrich it. It is contagious. That part of "Winter House" I enjoyed, while overall, I DO consider the book a disappointment.

This book is very visually descriptive. The author/designer put together the colors, textures, fabrics, furniture, etc. to give the reader a perfect picture of each room that he/she designed. I found myself going back through this book many times, each time finding something new. This book is not only a great resource book but also a beautiful book if one wishes to use it to embellish their coffee table. The "Winter House" is a must have for my home library.

After finding this book at a tag sale, I did some quick research on Ms Moss and found several interviews...I like to know the philosophy of the designers I recommend to clients...After reading several interviews and going through her book, I find Ms Moss a very fake, pretentious social climber. Judging someone by the shoes they wear or the napkins one has! She should be ashamed of herself. Even though her writing tries to show that she seems welcoming and embracing it is easy to read between the lines...It is entirely clear why this book wound up at the bottom of a box in a tag sale and I am glad I only spent .50 cents!

I always thought I loved winter until browsing this book. It is full of dull, dreary, depressing rooms. The fourth "d"--disappointing!!!

I received this book for Christmas and sat down with a cup of coffee on a late December morning to read it. It is a beautiful book, full of luscious photograhs and delightful text. I felt like I was a fortunate visitor to the wonderful Aspen home of the Moss family. What a thoroughly enjoyable escape on a wintry day!
"Winter HOuse" will remain on my coffee table until Spring and then come out again subsequent November, when I will enjoy reading it again.
