Product Description:
Are you a strongman fan or competitor? Then this is your book, because it will be devoured, if not memorized, by everyone who's big on the professional strongman circuit. After introducing a number of top performers on yesterday's strongman circuit and the beginning of the Oldtime Barbell and Strongman Association, leading strength historian David Webster focuses on the modern-day professional strongman contests. He profiles the competitors--from the superstars like Jon Pall Sigmarsson and Bill Kazmaier to more recent greats like Magnus ver Magnusson and Magnus Samuelsson, as well as guys you might not really know about, even if you've seen them on reruns of the World's Strongest Man (WSM) contest. David also provides his unique and insightful summaries of all the WSM contests through 1996. Consider this to be required and fascinating reading for all strongman enthusiasts. Over 100 photos. Get ready for the subsequent Worlds Strongest Man! We're offering the book on how it all started--the history, the people, the places--at a special rate you won't want to pass up.

anyone who is involved in any of the strength sports (or pretty much ANY athlete, for that matter) will absolutely LOVE this book. Little known (and for the most part amazing) feats by accomplished strength athletes. Things such as vertical jump by oly lifters (Paul Anderson, etc.), the fastest MILE ever run by someone with a bodyweight >300lbs., you name it. Will perhaps change your opinion on what exactly constitutes an 'All-around athlete'.

This book is written by strength sports historian David Webster. He has been involved in highland games and strongman now for many years and knows all of the athletes personally. This book is the second of a series that profiles the top strongmen primarily of the mid 80's to early 90's. The largest section of this book is dedicated to the sport's top star of that time period, Jon Pall Sigmarsson, a four time World's Strongest Man, who unfortunately, died prematurely at the age of only 33. I highly recommend this book if you are into strongman.
