While vacationing in London in the summer of 1989 I actually saw this play in the West End starring none other than Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke themselves. Yes, Brett was ill at that time and his decline was painfully apparent. And yet, yet he was as commanding and magnetic a performer as ever and the warmth and chemistry between these two distinguished actors was glorious to behold. I agree with the reviewer who said that the plot of the play, although based completely on canonical dialog taken out of context, is bizarre to the point of being ludicrous. But with Brett and Hardwicke onstage together and me sitting only 15 rows back, who cares? It was a magical night at the theatre for me, and a memory that I will always treasure.

I loved the play as it progressed and showed the relationship between Holmes & Watson. However, when it was nearing the end, what this book supposes doesn't go well with a person who is fond of Sherlock Holmes' character. I still give a 4 star for Jeremy Paul's efforts. Most of the conversation in this book comes directly from Cannon. This is what makes this play very interesting.
Read this just for a fun, but be aware! It took me a month & a half to receive this rare copy from Amazon, so be patient.

This is a very good play, another example of Jeremy Paul's excellent writing. What most people don't know is that Jeremy Brett helped write this play! He worked hard to help it get going , even though he was already diagnosed with Manic Depression at this time. He was VERY enthusiastic about it, but thought that the play wouldn't run for very long. The play ran for over a year! I recommend this play to people who are fans of Sherlock Holmes, Jeremy Brett, or actors (like myself) who enjoy fine plays.
