Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
She has beauty, poise and intelligence, a diamond of the very first water, a prize of great value, but she is not happy. Lady Davina Woodburn feels totally uprooted. A country girl at heart, she is a better judge of horse-flesh than any man, enjoys the wild freedom of her rural life, and is not afraid to attend the births of the farm animals, or patch up a wound in either man or beast. Nineteen-year-old Davina feels quite out of place in London. She wishes to be back where she feels she belongs, certainly not on the London marriage mart. Had her aunt not insisted upon it to her father, she would still be back home... then she would never have met and lost the man of her dreams.

In One Perfect Afternoon, Jane Dawkins (author of the acclaimed Pride and Prejudice continuations, Letters from Pemberley, and More Letters from Pemberley) tells another sparkling tale of another spirited young woman. Like Elizabeth Bennet, Lady Davina Woodburn sometimes ruffles the feathers of those around her, and her independent mind is often at odds with society in the English Regency period in which she lives.

'One Perfect Afternoon is a wonderfully told story and will touch your heart...Jane [Dawkins] has again brought style and grace into the telling, along with vivid scenery and lush costuming...one Regency romance you won't want to miss.'

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - didn't like it
Davina is a lady and in the Marriage Mart contrary to her wishes of spending peaceful days in the country with her father. During a walk with her little cousins she meets Rupert, younger brother of Sir Henry - one of the most eligible bachelors of the season. Rupert mistakes her for a governess and she thinks he is a groom. So they instantly form a friendship that develops into something else.

I know this is a fiction, but am I supposed to believe the lady in question does not have the least regard for her virtue? At that time? How come she sleeps with a groom (for she thinks Rupert is just a servant) as if it were the most natural thing - why not? They're probably in love and so what if it's not in the 21st century?! People are open-minded enough at that time, aren't they? 'Romanceatheart' reviewer likened the heroine to Elizabeth Bennet from Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice' which is the reason I bought this book. Well, this is one of my 'top twenty' purchase disappointments of the year, suffice to say.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Delightful period Romance
One Perfect Afternoon is a wonderful Regency Romance that is true to the period and the genre. It is a delicious read with just enough spice to satisfy one's interest. Jane Dawkins provides an engrossing story that twists and turns from beginning to end and keeps your interest at the peak all the way to its' conclusion. As lovely to read as her earlier "Pride and Prejudice" sequels, "Letters from Pmeberley" and "More Letters from Pemberley." Enjoy!
