Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
From the white heat of Miami to the implants of LA, the glittering waters of the Caribbean to the deserts of Arabia, Olivia Joules pits herself against the forces of terror armed only with a hatpin, razor sharp wits and a very special underwired bra. How could a girl not be drawn to the alluring, powerful Pierre Ferramo, with his hooded eyes, impeccable taste, unimaginable wealth, exotic homes across the globe and a rather dubious French accent? But is it possible that Ferramo is actually a major terrorist, bent on the western world's destruction. Or, is it all just a product of Olivia Joules's overactive imagination. Join Olivia in her heart-stopping and hilarious quest to save the world in this witty, contemporary and utterly unputdownable thriller. 'If Bridget Jones shaped and named a certain kind of life in the 1990s, it looks as if Olivia Joules, Helen Fielding's new heroine, may do the same for the new decade' - 'The Times'.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Fielding delivers despite other reviews
I just finished Olivia Joules and must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. This book does not warrant the bad reviews it has received. I had stumbled across the book accidentally after finishing Dan Brown's Deception Point and aside from my familiarity of Fielding's other heroine Bridget Jones I knew nothing of the novel. If you're looking for an intense convoluted plot with intricate twists and turns this might not be the book for you. However if you don't mind a bit of silliness and a girl using a hair pin as a dangerous weapon I'd give this book a go. I found myself laughing out loud many times and about half way through and I soon decided I couldn't put it down. I spent the last two hours curled up on the couch reading the rest of it and was thoroughly satisfied. This book will transfer well to the big screen.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Perfectly enjoyable, but nothing special
There have been many negative reviews written about this book. I remember reading a scathing review in Entertainment Weekly upon its publication. Already a fan of Fielding, the review did not hamper my desire to read it, if only to see if it was actually as terrible as the writer made it out to be. Years later, I finally read it and thoroughly enjoyed it, but my expectations were quite low. It is not very funny or clever. It is an easy and pleasant read with a cute title character. I would read another book about Olivia Joules in an instant, but this is no classic novel. I hate the term 'chick lit', and think it is a disservice to authors who are women and to the women who these books are supposed to be intended for. Unfortunately, this book does seem like one of the many, many, many books that have come out in the wake of Bridget Jones that are by unfamiliar authors and are clumped into a slightly disorganized section in stores under the banner of 'chick lit'. Basically, it seems like this could be any book grabbed at random in a section like that, but that does not make this a bad book. It is a fun and breezy read, but nothing special.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Not as bad as they said ...
I beg to differ from those 1-star ratings and bad reviews of some Amazon readers! Granted, this book does not have the depth and research of reality as, say, a Dan Brown novel but, overall, it is an entertaining and exciting book. Although a little plodding at first, the beginning of the book also leaves much to the reader's imagination -- after each scene, you are left wondering whether what the heroine is experiencing is merely a figment of her own imagination or whether it is actually happening. From the middle to the end of the book, it was just hard to put down. Sure, some scenes weren't original (stolen from movies) but there were also many cliff hangers. Taken as a whole, the story is substantial and holds quite a few surprises.

The heroine is not another ditzy Bridget Jones because she is smart and independent. I started this book as a big fan of Bridget Jones but now I am just a big fan of Helen Fielding!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Warning: Anyone who takes this book too seriously will miss out on the fun!
I picked up this book while taking a break from another and immediately realized what the other was lacking: sparkle. The indescribable sparkly zing that makes a book special.

After just a few pages I found that besides style, the book also had a thrilling and clever Nancy Drew meets James Bond vibe that I can't get enough of; as soon as I finished I started it over again! It was even better the second time.

Olivia Joules is my new hero, hope she won't mind if I borrow her Rules for Living.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Not worth your time or money
Easily one of the most boring books I have ever read. I read the very first 150 pages hoping it would get better, but just could not go on after that. The story makes no sense at all. Definitely not worth anyone's time or money.
