Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
On any given day in London, all Charles Lenox, Victorian gentleman and armchair explorer, wants to do is relax in his private study with a cup of tea, a roaring fire and a good book. But when his lifelong friend Lady Jane asks for his help, Lenox cannot resist another chance to unravel a mystery, even if it means trudging through the snow to her townhouse subsequent door.

One of Jane’s former servants, Prudence Smith, is dead – an apparent suicide. But Lenox suspects something far more sinister: murder, by a rare and deadly poison. The house where the girl worked is full of suspects, and though Prudence dabbled with the hearts of more than a few men, Lenox is baffled by an elusive lack of motive in the girl’s death.
When another body turns up during the London season’s most fashionable ball, Lenox must untangle a web of loyalties and animosities. Was it jealousy that killed Prudence? Or was it something else entirely, something that Lenox alone can uncover before the killer strikes again – disturbingly close to home?

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Loving Lenox
Charles Lenox, gentleman detective, is very clever & appealing. Twists in plot, subtle clues & attractive characters keep you turning the pages. If you read this one, you will want to get the subsequent one - due to be published soon ("September Society"). Loving that Charlie Lenox!!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A Fantastic Read
After a good deal of prodding from a friend, I recently picked up A Beautiful Blue Death. I am not usually a fan of mystery novels, but I found this book to be fantastic. Great character development and an interesting plot make this book very difficult to put down!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A Great Mystery for a Cold Night Indoors!
I don't often read mysteries, but I loved this one. Its descriptions of the snowy London evenings, the hearty meals the Victorians ate, and the characters' clubs and country houses took me straight to 1865. I really liked the story's detective, Charles Lenox, and his best friend (and potential love interest?) Lady Jane Grey, but I loved some of the secondary characters, especially Lenox's friend Thomas McConnell, a young, disillusioned doctor with a drinking problem. And the author's subtle depiction of the blurred lines of class in a time that seems in retrospect so rigidly classist felt true to life.

Definitely recommended! I can't wait for the sequel, The September Society.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Truly delightful, charming mystery for a cold winter's night read
This, in my opinion, is a wonderful example of the genre. Yes, there are several chronological confusions as one reviewer has already noted, but surely one suspends belief before delving into a book of this type. Mr. Finch, primarily through his dialogue (in my opinion)sucks you into the period in a way that makes one feel they are in the room with his characters. Highly recommended for those of you to like this sort of read.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent Mystery
I am a fan of mysteries, but I usually don't read historicals. I received this book as a gift and was pleasantly surprised. I started reading it on a plane ride home, then stayed up late to finish.
