Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - a good but not great thriller
This novel starts out strongly. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and the corporate politics, knowing that I was being set up for the hostage adventure at the secluded lodge. I liked Landry, the protagonist. But when the excitement began and the very first gun was drawn, I found myself not drawn in as much I had hoped. Part of it was that there were too many characters that I just didn't know enough or care enough about. Part of it was that the action was not faced-paced enough. The main character, Landry, was somewhere between a believable corporate guy caught in a violent crisis, and an amazing Rambo-like operative. Still, with these criticisms, I did enjoy it as light escapist fiction. Finder's Paranoia is my favorite of this genre, and I expect Finder's other novels will all suffer from my heightened expectations.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - This FINDER may or may not be a KEEPER
The book (as most of Finder's books) is set in the corporate environment, which is an area I find interesting and not over-populated in the "adventure-thriller" category.
Following some changes at the top, several key Company executives are set up at a remote "Corporate Retreat" where they will supposedly come together as a team. As you can imagine they, as well as some intruders, get in the way of accomplishing that objective, with some tragic consequences.
It was a fast read and the premise held my interest, although I did skim through some portions of the story that contributed little to the outcome.
Much of what happens at the lodge is very predictable, including the resolution of the story. One can easily guess whether all will survive the ordeal or not. If you enjoy a story that moves quickly and for the most part stays right on track, you'll enjoy Power Play.
Not a bad read, but not as interesting as some of his others. A good one to pick up at a book sale if you like Finder's style and his corporate tie-ins.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Worth the time to read....four stars
Joseph Finder is a top notch mystery writer. This time, his main character works for an aircraft company. He is invited on a big business retreat to a very remote region in British Columbia, Canada. Jake Landry, the main character, also encounters his ex=girlfriend who is now the top assistant to the new female CEO of the corporation.

Finder sets up the plot and as the big time hotshots get together to discuss the company and it's future it quickly becomes a hostage situation. Who are these people who take over the cabin? What is their goal? Is there someone inside the company who set the whole hostage taking up? Joseph Finder does a solid job bringing the plot along towards a great finish. Jake Landry (the main character) reminded me of Bruce Willis in the DIE HARD movies as he has to take on the bad guys one at a time.

It's worth the time to read. It's not Finder's best book, but it's worth your time to read and enjoy a solid thriller.
